Susan Flynn, her husband Tom and their three children moved to the Cincinnati area in 1993. It wasn’t long after that Sue found she could use her skills as a nurse and help fill a growing need in the community. Sue founded Little Miami Home Care. Dedicated to the highest quality service in personal home care, Little Miami Home Care Inc. offers elderly family members the opportunity to remain in their homes as an alternative to going to a nursing home.
Sue, a registered nurse and graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, originally moved to Ohio in 1974 and spent the first 10 years of her career in an operating room. In 1980 she joined a Home Health Agency, and her career evolved from direct patient care to administration. Sue realized she liked what she was doing.
While searching for their new home in relocating to Cincinnati, Sue discovered the SEM Retirement community. She stopped in the facility, talked with the staff and got a tour. As they talked, Sue learned that residents who needed assistance had to move to an Assisted Living arrangement or to a Nursing Home. That was not what either the facility or the residents wanted. Sensing she could help both the SEM and their residents, Sue convinced the administration that a homecare service would allow their residents to “age in place.” Offering a little assistance in the morning as well as tuck-in services and medication prompting - was all that was needed in many instances.
Little Miami Home Care incorporated in 1993. Sue provided all the services singlehandedly. The business grew due to the tremendous needs of the residents in Clermont County, and Sue hired aides to keep up with the growth. Over the years Little Miami Home Care grew to providing services across the community.
Sue understands what goes through the minds of her patients. “Imagine working all of your life for the things that you have, and then having to give all of that up to move to a nursing home or assisted living. Although, those decisions are sometimes necessary, there is a very gray area between living independently and having to move to a nursing home. That is why Little Miami Home Care, Inc. is proud to have been serving Clermont and the eastern side of Hamilton County since 1993.” The primary focus of Little Miami Home Care is to provide services such as bathing and dressing, light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation. Companionship is very important to the elderly. Every client is individually assessed by an R.N. to determine their needs.
Little Miami Home Care also offers respite care and care for at-home Alzheimer patients as well as relief for patient’s caregivers. Little Miami Home Care strives to provide the compassionate and caring help clients deserve. At the same time, Little Miami Home Care offers the patients’ caregivers time to handle personal needs, such as surgery, shopping, doctor appointments, hair appointments or just to enjoy being with friends.
Little Miami Home Care was the first home health agency in Clermont County. The needs of the community have grown with an aging population. Sue and her staff now find themselves caring for the adult children of past clients.
Assignments at Little Miami Health Care are flexible and offer opportunities to moms who have small children or children to get off the bus, student nurses, and older workers, who would have difficulty working a full time job.
